Commitment to Safety

“In regards to your 100% tie-off rule on Gilbane jobsites... if it weren't for the enforcement of this rule, I just may have lost my life or have been seriously injured. The plank I was walking on broke, which had never happened to me before. It has given me a new outlook on what 'can happen.'” Jason, scaffold erector and father of four

It is no accident that we are well-known in the construction industry for our uncompromising commitment to work safety —every day, on every project -- on job sites across the country. Safety is one of our fundamental values and is emphasized in all areas of the company:

  • Our Safety Department consists of a corporate-wide initiative with regionally and site-based safety personnel to provide local assistance.
  • Regional managers and project executives hold regular meetings to review safety performance, discuss trends and share lessons learned.
  • All management and supervisory personnel annually undergo a Safety Matrix Performance Review.

Our Gilbane Cares program -- a safety philosophy built on the belief that everyone on our projects is a member of our family -- combines our award-winning safety systems with dedication to caring about the well being of all the people that work on our projects.

"The stakes are high, as our projects are executed in occupied schools, active hospitals, and critical data centers, where children, patients and businesses count on us to ensure their safety and business continuity. To us, safety is not just implementing policies and procedures. It's a deeply held value," says Tony O'Dea, Corporate Safety Director.

Gilbane has been honored by the Associated General Contractors, Construction Users Roundtable and others as one of the safest companies in the construction industry. While our systems and procedures for keeping people out of harm’s way are second to none, we’re committed to doing even better. We invite you to learn more about our philosophy by visiting the Gilbane Cares section.
